Caring Neighbour / Silver Sunday Awards

On Friday 4th October in the Council
Chamber, Havering Over 50’s Forum
hosted an afternoon of Community Awards to celebrate, recognise
and thank those unsung people who are involved in making a difference in
the Borough. This involved the established Caring Neighbour Scheme and
included Silver Sunday Awards which came at the end of Active Living
Week. This Award recognises the contribution people over 50 have made in
the Borough. At the end of the presentation ceremony everybody was
invited to afternoon tea with the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Linda
Trew, and her Consort , Mr Graham Trew, President of the Over 50’s
Forum, Councillor Pam Light and
Winners of
the Caring Neighbour Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards were :
Gladys is 85 years old and has helped her
neighbour, doing odd jobs, gardening, keeping in touch and just being
there, for many years. It
would not be possible for her to live in her own home without Mrs
Felton’s care, compassion and help.
Judy helps all her neighbours.
She has done Shopping, Washing and Ironing for many of them.
Apart from this when one neighbour went into hospital she looked after
all the animals, going in to feed them twice a day. She is a good friend
and very caring neighbour.
Gordon and his wife call on their neighbour most
days, or if not he telephones to make sure everything is okay.
He also helps with Shopping, Gardening and odd jobs. A kind and
trustworthy neighbour.
Tony is
a neighbour who is always willing to help, whether gardening, dealing
with tradesman or just making a cup of tea. He never says no.
This Award
was presented by Len Faram, MBE, Chairman of the Havering Community
Police Consultative Group and accepted on Tony’s behalf by Sue McNally.
Paula
has looked out for her neighbour, a long-standing friend who, with age,
has become unwell. Apart
from doing odd jobs around the house and accompanying her to hospital,
she has liaised with both her family and doctor to ensure she keeps safe
and well. Paula is also a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator.
